3.5 Trail ride
The troop kicked off the Cycling Merit Badge with a challenging 3.5‑mile ride of hills and wooded trails of JR Alford Greenway, starting with a safety briefing and a quick stop to fill water bottles. About a mile in, Scoutmaster Grosh’s bike chain snapped, but—true to Be Prepared—he returned to his vehicle and swapped to a spare bicycle before rejoining the group. The Scouts worked together to navigate the terrain, support one another on the climbs, and stay motivated through the tougher sections. It was a demanding ride, but the teamwork, determination, and fun made it a great start to the merit badge.
