Troop 44 has been going on high-adventure expeditions since 1980 — one of the defining traditions that sets our troop apart. Each year we take eligible Scouts to one of Scouting America’s national high-adventure bases, giving them a once-in-a-lifetime experience in true wilderness.
All high-adventure trips are led by Wilderness First Aid-certified adult leaders, ensuring every Scout is in safe, experienced hands no matter where the adventure takes us.

🏔 Philmont Scout Ranch
Cimarron, New Mexico
Scouting’s most iconic base — 214 square miles of rugged New Mexico wilderness. Backpacking treks, rock climbing, horseback riding, gold panning, and mountain lore. A Troop 44 favorite with multiple visits.
🌊 Sea Base
Florida Keys
Right in our backyard. Sailing, scuba diving, ocean kayaking, island camping, and paddleboarding in the tropical waters of the Florida Keys. One of Troop 44’s most-visited bases.
🌎 Northern Tier
Ely, Minnesota / Canada
Scouting’s gateway to the Great Northwoods. Multi-day canoe treks across millions of acres of pristine lakes and rivers into Canada. Also offers Okpik winter wilderness camping.
⛰ Summit Bechtel Reserve
Glen Jean, West Virginia
Scouting’s most modern base and home of the National Scout Jamboree. Zip lines, whitewater rafting, mountain biking, rock climbing, ATV tracks, and more.
Eligibility & How to Get Involved
Scouts generally need to be 13 years old (14 for some programs) and at least First Class rank to participate. Good physical fitness is required — each base has specific health standards. High-adventure slots are booked 1–2 years in advance, so talk to your Scoutmaster early.
